UFC on ESPN 10 video: Julia Avila needs just 22 seconds to stop Gina Mazany
An 11 month layoff for Julia Avila ended with a stunning 22 second TKO on Saturday night
The bantamweight prospect tore through late replacement opponent Gina Mazany by TKO following a series of rapid fire punches that forced the referee to step into stop the fight in the opening round.
“It feels amazing,” Avila said following her second straight win in the UFC. “I’ve been working so hard for this. I’m just so happy. There’s a few times when I let my animal side release and there it is.”

Both fighters were willing to trade punches as soon as they were released from the corner but it was a knee straight up the middle from Avila that precipitated the end of the fight.
The glancing blow to the midsection hurt Mazany and just as she started moving backwards towards the cage, Avila rushed ahead with a finish on her mind.
Shot after shot landed in succession with Mazany only able to cover her head as Avila just unloaded with power punches until the fight was stopped.
At 2-0 in the UFC, Avila is already someone worth watching in the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division and this victory will almost assuredly earn her a higher profile opponent when she books her next fight.
