UFC on ESPN 11: Bobby Green gets back on track with unanimous decision over Clay Guida
Bobby Green has been very unhappy with some of the judges in his recent fights but the scorecards finally went his way on Saturday night.
After three hard fought rounds, Green earned a unanimous decision over Clay Guida in the featured prelim at UFC on ESPN 11. The win put Green back on track after dropping his past two fights in a row.
Green definitely had to battle his way through all 15 minutes because in signature Guida fashion, the non-stop pace was set almost immediately as he started looking for takedowns.
While Green’s hands were fast and accurate, he was still struggling to stop Guida from closing the distance, putting him against the cage and bringing the fight down to the ground. As time passed, however,’ Green began timing Guida’s wrestling and that allowed him to unleash better strikes including a few knees up the middle that were inches away from possibly ending the fight.
The striking from Green really began shifting the momentum in his favor late in the second round but Guida kept coming after him, desperate to get another takedown. Unfortunately for Guida, even when he managed to drag the action onto the mat, he couldn’t maintain control and Green quickly popped back to his feet.
Late in the fight, Green kept peppering away with short shots to the head and body while shutting down Guida’s wrestling, which likely helped him secure the decision from the judges.
The scorecards came back 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 with Green getting his first win since Jan. 2018 while Guida falls to 1-3 in his past four fights.
