Silva had already proven himself to be a worthy UFC champion heading into his matchup with Henderson, twice defeating fan favorite Rich Franklin in dominant fashion. This was just the third title defense of Silva’s legendary run at the top and Henderson entered with his own lofty reputation having brought a pair of PRIDE titles with him to the UFC.

Billed as a unification bout, the fight was a competitive one until Silva took over in the second round with his laser-like striking and often overlooked ground game. “The Spider” got the tap-out with a rear-naked choke in the closing seconds of the round two, continuing a winning streak that would last for another four years.
