Holm vs De Randamie Rematch On Deck?
UFC Fight Island 4 went down last night (Sat., Oct. 3, 2020) from inside Flash Forum on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In the main event of the evening, Holly Holm absolutely out-classed Irene Aldana to earn a unanimous decision win (see it again here). In the co-headlining act, Carlos Felipe won a unanimous decision over Yorgan de Castro in a wild Heavyweight brawl (recap here).
Winner: Holly Holm
Who She Should Face Next: Germaine de Randamie
This one is a no-brainer. Both Holm (No. 2) and de Randamie (No. 1) picked up big wins in Abu Dhabi, putting them at the forefront of the title race in the women's Bantamweight division. Meanwhile, dual division champion Amanda Nunes still has business to take care of against Megan Anderson at UFC 256 this December. That means that “Lioness” likely won’t want to drop down to 135 pounds s quickly, which means that Holm and de Randamie will be waiting a while to fight. In the meantime, why not just run it back to see who gets the title shot? Germaine defeated Holm back at UFC 208 in a women’s Featherweight title fight, so “The Preacher’s Daughter” would love nothing more than to get some revenge.
Winner: Carlos Felipe
Who He Should Face Next: Tai Tuivasa vs Stefan Struve winner
I am going to piggy back off Dan Hardy’s suggestion, as “The Outlaw” mentioned multiple times that a Heavyweight slugfest between Felipe — or Yorgan de Castro — would be a banger. And he’s not wrong, as all three men can get after it. That said, Tuivasa is currently booked to face off against Stefan Struve at UFC 254 on October 24, 2020 — also on “Fight Island.” That being said, I’d like to see Felipe take on the winner since all three men are simply trying to make moves in the 265-pound division, where they are all currently at the bottom of the totem pole.
Winner: Kyler Phillips
Who He Should Face Next: Thomas Almeida next week at UFC Fight Island 5
Kyler Phillips was going on and on after his win over Cameron Else that he is ready to jump back on the saddle after his knockout win, so he may get his chance. After Alejandro Perez was forced out of his 135-pound bout against Thomas Almeida due to a positive COVID-19 test. He escaped from his fight against Else unscathed, so a quick turnaround isn’t out of the question. He competes at 135 pounds and seems game to take on anybody. While Almeida is a big step up in competition, it is also a big opportunity for Phillips to make a name for himself, much like Khamzat Chimaev did with his quick “Fight Island” turnaround.
Winner: Dusko Todorovic
Who He Should Face Next: Nassourdine Imavov
Dusko Todorovic had a successful UFC debut last night after knocking out Dequan Townsend in round number two to remain undefeated at 10-0 (1-0 UFC). Imavov, meanwhile, was also successful in his own UFC debut by out-scoring Jordan Williams en route to a unanimous decision win. Who knows, if the promotion needs to fill a spot on one of it’s remaining three events on “Fight Island,” they could book this fight sooner, rather than alter.
