UFC Vegas 11 video: Damon Jackson taps out Mirsad Bektic with nasty mounted guillotine choke

Damon Jackson earned his first UFC win under the least likely circumstances.

The veteran featherweight accepted an opportunity to face Mirsad Bektic at UFC Vegas 11 on just three days’ notice after Eduard Garagorri was forced off the card after one of his coaches tested positive for COVID-19. While Jackson didn’t have an easy night at the office after a battle with Bektic through 10 minutes, he eventually landed a nasty mounted guillotine choke to earn a submission win in the third round.

The end came at 1:23 in round three.

“I was definitely ready to fight,” Jackson said after getting the win. “I’m ready to go again. Just give me a few weeks to heal up. I felt great.”

Jackson actually latched onto another guillotine choke in the opening round that put a grimace on Bektic’s face but ultimately he was able to slip free from the submission as he looked to dish out his own ground and pound attack.

Despite Bektic’s best effort, Jackson survived the early onslaught while showing remarkable conditioning after taking the fight earlier this week. As each minute passed, Bektic appeared to slow down while Jackson was still showing the same ferocity.

That helped him stuff a takedown from Bektic in the third round by grabbing onto the neck and locking in the guillotine choke. From there, Jackson rolled into the mount and Bektic eventually had no other choice but to tap out from the submission.

After coming up short in three previous appearances in the UFC between 2014 and 2016, Jackson now has a win inside the octagon while moving his overall record to 9-2 in his past 11 fights.
