Reyes Not Impressed With UFC Vegas 7’s ‘Lame’ Main Event
With Jon Jones gone from light heavyweight, Dominick Reyes has picked up the mantle of division Twitter trash talker.
Following a controversial split decision loss to Jon Jones and Jones’ subsequent relinquishing of his light heavyweight title, Dominick Reyes has been strutting about like the new uncrowned king of 205 pound division. And hey, fair enough: twice as many media members submitting scores to MMA Decisions had him edging out Jones 48-47 in their UFC 247 fight back in February.
And he certainly tweets like the light heavyweight champ. Jon Jones was almost as notorious as the “Notorious” Conor McGregor for jumping on Twitter and inserting himself into the conversation during the fights of his fellow competitors. And now Reyes is doing the same, showing he’s not only willing to claim the throne but carry on the s**t talk duties that go along with it. What a benevolent ruler!
Here’s what Reyes had to say about UFC Vegas 7’s light heavyweight main event between Anthony Smith and Aleksandar Rakic, which Rakic won 30-26, 30-27, and 30-27 via brute physical domination (watch the highlights, such as they are, here).
Rakic has more to lose in this one. Let's see how he handles the pressure trying to crack the top 5.

To say Dom was unimpressed with Smith’s performance would be an understatement.

Neither was he chuffed about Rakic playing it safe and holding Smith down.
But what do I know ♂️

As much as Reyes may act like it, he ain’t light heavyweight champ yet. That’ll come if he manages to beat Jan Blachowicz in the co-main event of UFC 253 on September 26th. After a shaky start in the UFC, Blachowicz has gone 7-1 over his last 8, most recently knocking Corey Anderson out in the first round earlier this year. Either way, we don’t think whoever wins will have to worry too much about facing Aleksander Rakic next.
Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira is set for a September 12th fight night, with dibs on the next title shot in the balance. We look forward to more Twitter trashtalk on that bout from Reyes, because someone’s gotta do it. You go, uncrowned king!
