Elliott, Hill Pop For Marijuana Use

Two fighters are currently facing possible lengthy suspensions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) as both Tim Elliott and Jamahal Hill tested positive for marijuana stemming from in-competition drug tests.

Both tests were administered for their respective fights at UFC on ESPN 9 on May 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada which saw Elliott lose to Brandon Royval and Hill defeat Klidson Abreu via knockout (see it). Hill’s win will likely be overturned to a no contest (NC) giving him the first blemish of his otherwise mint record which currently stands at 8-0, 2-0 UFC.

Per the ESPN report, both fighters are both temporarily suspended by the NSAC and their sentences could be extended further at a later hearing. For now, both combatants are only facing disciplinary action from the NSAC and not United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA), which could obviously change at a moment’s notice.

In his defense, Elliott says the result can be attributed to the fact that he took the fight on short notice.

Interestingly enough, Elliott went on to compete six weeks after the bout in which he tested positive for, defeating Ryan Benoit at UFC Fight Island 1 on July 15. NSAC likely didn’t have the results in before then which would have certainly forced UFC to look for someone else to face Benoit.

Nevertheless, Elliott — who recently inked a new deal with UFC — and Hill now have to wait and see if they will be riding the pine for the remainder of the year...and possibly the first part of 2021.
