With Karol Rosa out, Julia Avila now faces Gina Mazany at UFC event on June 13
For the fourth time, Julia Avila’s scheduled fight with Karol Rosa is off. This time, she was able to find a short notice replacement.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that Avila will now face the returning Gina Mazany on June 13. The event is expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
News of the new matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie.
Sources close to the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting that Rosa’s withdrawal stems from visa issues, as well as the travel ban from Brazil to the U.S.
Avila made her UFC debut in July at UFC 239 and picked up a unanimous decision win over Pannie Kianzad. “The Raging Panda” signed with the promotion following a second-round TKO win over Alexa Connors at Invicta FC 32 in November 2018. The 31-year-old has not needed judges’ scorecards in more than half of her professional victories.
Mazany returns to the UFC after going 1-3 in her first stint with the promotion. After losing back-to-back fights to Lina Lansberg and Macy Chiasson, the 31-year-old was not brought back for a new contract. “Danger” went on to get a first-round TKO finish for King of the Cage in January as she looks to make the most with her second chance.
The UFC’s June 13 event will be headlined by a women’s flyweight matchup between Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo.
