Tyron Woodley tells UFC he’s ready for UFC 249, asks ‘Colby in or not?’

Like many UFC fighters these days, former welterweight champ Tyron Woodley wants the promotion to give him an answer.

An answer, that is, on whether he’s “shooting the fade” in stepping in to fight at UFC 249, and preferably against rival Colby Covington.

On Saturday, Woodley took to Instagram to nudge his promoter about the April 18 fight card, which has yet to receive an official city and venue. UFC President Dana White has vowed to move forward despite widespread shutdowns in cities across America due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Woodley, who was scratched from UFC London when the COVID-19 outbreak postponed the event, on Tuesday characterized his willingness to fight Covington as a last offer before moving on to other challenges.

“If he don’t fight me at this time, you’re never even going to hear his name, cause it doesn’t solidify my legacy to fight him,” he said on an Instagram live post. “I just want to beat his ass cause y’all need to see him get whooped.”

Woodley has yet to make his first appearance since the loss of the title to current champ Kamaru Usman, who’s also volunteered to step up at UFC 249. There are plenty of perspective opponents waiting to give Woodley a rude welcome back, including welterweight standout Gilbert Burns. Shortly after Woodley issued a now-deleted post, the Brazilian countered.

Burns is fresh off a knockout win over Demian Maia in the most recent UFC event, a closed-door show at UFC Brasilia.
